Nova

Good morning! This is Castilume, the daily tech desk, powered by Belink. I'm Nova, here with Atlas. It's Tuesday, 13 October.

Atlas

Four stories today. Every one is confirmed by at least two outlets, and the links are on the episode page.

Nova

Story one, AI. Meta has some Wonder Full new AI models.

Atlas

According to The Verge: Meta is making up for lost time in the AI race. Meta says the models compete with the industry's best and will soon power its Muse agent. After launching Muse Spark, the first model from its revamped Superintelligence Labs division, and buzzy AI agent Muse, it's now launching two new models it claims can go toe-to-toe with the industry's best. The company says its new models can rival leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic, including GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, and Claude Fable 5.1, pointing to results from internal testing on several industry benchmarks.

Nova

TechCrunch adds: Where Muse Spark aimed to be a lightweight model that could perform at low latency, the Wonder models are larger and said to be more capable, with higher benchmark scores and better results on complex tasks like coding.

Atlas

For a small business here, three questions: can you use it this month, what does it cost, and where does your data go? If the story can't answer those yet, file it and move on.

Nova

Story two, AI. The Social Reckoning is flopping at the box office.

Atlas

The Verge reports: As important as some of the messages in The Social Reckoning are, the movie has been drastically underperforming at the box office. Per Variety, Aaron's Sorkin's follow up to The Social Network only grossed a measly $5.5 million this past weekend against a budget that's somewhere within the $30–42 million range. That would make it a certifiable flop that's costing Columbia Pictures, and Sony, quite a bit of money, especially when you compare it to The Social Network's $22 million opening. Ironically, Blumhouse's Other Mommy raked in an impressive $27.5 million this weekend, which likely suggests that people are more interested in novel horror as opposed to reminders of how social media has made everyone's lives worse.

Nova

Also reported by SlashFilm, IMDb and Punch Drunk Critics.

Atlas

The test for a business in the region: is it available here, what does it cost, and who sees your data? No clear answers yet means it's one to watch, not one to buy.

Nova

Story three, security. Critical SonicWall SMA 1000 Flaw Targeted in 135 Exploitation Attempts After Patch.

Atlas

Here's what The Hacker News is reporting. Threat actors have been observed exploiting a recently disclosed critical security flaw in SonicWall Secure Mobile Access 1000 appliances within days of public disclosure. The vulnerability has since started witnessing active exploitation attempts, with first signs detected by threat intelligence firms Defused Cyber and Previdian on October 8, 2026. Data from Previdian shows that a total of 135 attempts have been observed to date from two unique IP addresses located in the U.S. SonicWall has yet to update the advisory to reflect active exploitation of the flaw.

Nova

Dark Reading also notes: Attackers are currently targeting a critical vulnerability in SMA 1000 appliances, putting SonicWall customers in a familiar yet unenviable position.

Atlas

The practical step: check whether you run the product named in the reports. If you do, read the vendor advisory and patch. If you don't, no action today.

Nova

Story four, security. Prominent Ransomware Negotiator Faces Extortion Charges.

Atlas

Per Dark Reading: Edward Dubrovsky, a longtime cybersecurity executive, was arrested and charged in Pennsylvania last week under conspiracy to extort money.

Nova

Also reported by Fox Business.

Atlas

Quick check for your team: do you run anything exposed to the internet that matches this report? If yes, lock it down and patch today. If not, keep an eye on it.

Nova

That's Castilume for today. The news, then what it means. Sources for every story are on the episode page. I'm Nova.
