Nova

Good morning! This is Castilume, the daily tech desk, powered by Belink. I'm Nova, here with Atlas. It's Sunday, 18 October.

Atlas

We've got three for you, each checked against at least two outlets. Sources are on the episode page.

Nova

Here's number one. iPhone Duo walk-in purchases might be challenging at launch, per report.

Atlas

Per 9to5Mac: According to a new report from MacRumors, Apple employees are being told to warn customers that iPhone Duo likely won't be available for purchase on launch day if you didn't already place a pre-order. Right now, Apple's website suggests that you can check back for iPhone Duo availability on October 24th. However, this isn't a guarantee of any stock actually being available, per MacRumors: Apple Store employees told MacRumors that they have been advised that there will likely be no ‌iPhone Duo‌ stock available for walk-in purchases on launch day. Staff have been instructed to discourage customers without pre-orders from coming in expecting to buy the device, warning that they will be disappointed.

Atlas

Bottom line for a small team: wait for pricing and real availability before you change any plans.

Nova

Story two, AI. TikTok bans Musk documentary account.

Atlas

According to The Verge: Just ahead of the wider release of Alex Gibney's Musk documentary, TikTok has banned the film's social media account from its platform. Larry Ellison's TikTok has shut down the promotional account for Alex Gibney's Elon Musk documentary. TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film's distributor, Bleecker Street, was informed Friday afternoon that a "permanent suspension" was imminent.

For a small business here, three questions: can you use it this month, what does it cost, and where does your data go? If the story can't answer those yet, file it and move on.

Nova

Next, from the security desk. Hackers Use Compromised ConnectWise Credential to Sign In to 173 Microsoft 365 Tenants.

Atlas

The Hacker News reports: Cybersecurity researchers are sounding the alarm related to an active campaign in which unknown threat actors are abusing a compromised Microsoft 365 credential belonging to ConnectWise Cloud Backup, formerly SkyKick, to gain unauthorized access to customers' M365 environments. ConnectWise Cloud Backup is a cloud-based backup and recovery service built for managed service providers to secure their clients' Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data. To accomplish its tasks, the application is granted broad access to mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and directory data in every tenant on which it's installed. Huntress said it has observed confirmed unauthorized sign-ins within 173 partner/customer tenants using the compromised vendor credential.

Nova

Over at BleepingComputer: ConnectWise has shut down customer access to its Cloud Backup service, formerly SkyKick Cloud Backup, after hackers accessed application identities and compromised Microsoft 365 tenants.

Atlas

Quick check for your team: do you run anything exposed to the internet that matches this report? If yes, lock it down and patch today. If not, keep an eye on it.
