Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO says. That's where we start today on Castilume. I'm Nova, here with Atlas, on Saturday, 17 October.
We've got six for you, each checked against at least two outlets. Sources are on the episode page.
So, AI. Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, CEO says.
Here's what TechCrunch is reporting. Masad said the decision was made for a number of different reasons, including cost. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but there was never any indication that it was no longer with Anthropic. "I think ChatGPT is better now," Masad said, adding that the company uses an internal benchmark to help assess metrics like performance. "We publish a public benchmark as well, and consistently, Sol and Astra perform better on building vibe-coded applications from scratch.

The test for a business in the region: is it available here, what does it cost, and who sees your data? No clear answers yet means it's one to watch, not one to buy.
Here's number two. Apple poaches longtime Meta executive to lead global litigation.
Per 9to5Mac: Bloomberg reports that Apple has hired Scott Tucker, who spent nearly six years as Meta's vice president and deputy general counsel for global litigation. Earlier this year, Meta's former chief legal officer Jennifer Newstead joined Apple as its new general counsel, replacing longtime executive Kate Adams. Newstead's responsibilities eventually expanded to include government affairs following the retirement of Lisa Jackson, who had previously overseen the division. The changes brought Apple's legal and government affairs teams under a single executive, with former CEO Tim Cook, now Apple's executive chairman, also remaining directly involved in managing the company's government relations.

Bottom line for a small team: wait for pricing and real availability before you change any plans.
Story three, Gulf tech. Abu Dhabi launches TAMM Global to export AI-powered government services worldwide.
According to The National: Abu Dhabi has established TAMM Global, a new company that will export the emirate's AI-powered unified government services platform to international markets. The Department of Government Enablement, Abu Dhabi announced the creation of the company under the directive of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. TAMM Global will develop, manage and deliver an integrated system of digital government services, owning and operating specialised digital platforms while holding the associated intellectual property rights. Ahmed Al Kuttab, chairman of DGE, said TAMM had become an integral part of how people and businesses interact with government since it was launched in 2005.

For businesses in Qatar and the Gulf, watch the practical side: data residency, local support, and who is accountable when something breaks.
Next, from the security desk. China-Linked Hackers Exploited BeyondTrust Zero-Day to Take Over Remote Support Servers.
The Hacker News reports: The China-nexus cyber espionage group tracked as Armory Castle, previously UNC5221 or Warp Panda, exploited a newly disclosed security flaw in BeyondTrust Remote Support, formerly Bomgar, as a zero-day in late August 2026. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-102764, CVSS score: 9.3, is a case of improper origin validation in an internal messaging component that could be exploited by a remote attacker to perform file operations on an affected appliance. "The vulnerability exists within internal components of Remote Support," BeyondTrust said in a Thursday alert. "The components did not adequately validate the origin of the messages it received.
Over at Dark Reading: Ivanti, Cisco, and Palo Alto Networks all had vulnerabilities in edge devices come under fire this week.
Quick check for your team: do you run anything exposed to the internet that matches this report? If yes, lock it down and patch today. If not, keep an eye on it.
On to security. BAE Systems cyberattack disrupts US federal court operations.
Here's what BleepingComputer is reporting. The Administrative Office of the US Courts says a cyberattack on government contractor BAE Systems has taken down the notice system used by federal bankruptcy courts. BAE is actively investigating this incident and working to restore operations," AOUSC said. "We are aware of a security incident that is isolated to the BNC system and have taken immediate steps to address it. We are coordinating closely with AOUSC on the response," a BAE Systems spokesperson told BleepingComputer.
SecurityWeek also notes: A cyber incident affecting contractor BAE Systems has knocked out the Bankruptcy Noticing Center, halting notices nationwide for a week.
The takeaway: keep your public-facing systems patched and behind a login. That alone blocks most of what's in stories like this.
Here's number six. Open-weight models win hearts, minds, and wallets.
Per The Register: They handle 71.5% of Vercel gateway tokens and nearly a quarter of estimated spending Open-weight models more than quadrupled their share of spending through Vercel's AI Gateway between June and September, when they processed more than seven in 10 tokens. "In August, open-weight models processed the majority of AI Gateway token volume for the first time," the biz said. Open weight's share of spend has more than quadrupled over the last three months, from one in twenty gateway dollars in June to nearly one in four in September." AI Gateway, like OpenRouter, acts as an intermediary that allows customers to purchase tokens from different AI providers through a common interface. While it works with popular harnesses like Claude Code and Codex and provides access to proprietary and open-weight models, it doesn't see usage through other gateways or from customers who access AI models directly from vendors or through on-premises hosting.
